MINI Rooftops

If you could design a MINI roof, what would you paint on it? That's the question MINI Netherlands posed to four artists from culturally diverse backgrounds. The result? Eva Cremers

Eva is a 3D illustrator and animation director and after studying International Business at the University of Groningen, completed graphic design at the Art Academy. Old Disney cartoons (video and old comics) are her inspiration, precisely because she creates many 3D characters, it is a joy to watch old Disney cartoons.

For her MINI roof decal, she took inspiration from the car itself. As a MINI Convertible driver, she wanted to incorporate her own experience with MINI into her roof decal. Since she lives in the woody and green surroundings in Apeldoorn, she also incorporated many natural elements such as flowers and mushrooms. Her roof sticker features several characters, each also having something to do with the car. Just like when you drive around, even if it is the same ride every day, you see something new every time in this roof decal.

Tjitske Storm

Tjitske designs prints, patterns and textiles, mainly for interior applications and products. Her style is expressive and reflects a dynamic synergy of opposites, visible in the combination of geometric and organic forms, detailed photographic collages versus abstract illustrations, and the implementation of digital techniques and tactile crafts. By exploring and alternating opposites, she aims to highlight both the unity and diversity of life. 

The natural phenomenon of symbiosis has been the inspiration for her tapestry collection "The Art of Living Together," which will be presented during Dutch Design Week 2022, in the group exhibitions of Kazerne - Home of Design and Isola Design Gallery. From this collection, the design for MINI was also born, as it appeared to fit well with MINI's theme of Big Love. Her design for MINI is called "Zebra & Ostrich.

Gigi van Grevenbroek

Gigi is an illustrator working from Pakhuis Wilhelmina in Amsterdam on various projects. She works on commission and runs her own webshop. In addition to the roof decal for MINI, you can find her work from murals to online campaigns. And from books to posters.

The campaign of BIG LOVE for the people and the planet sparked Gigi's inspiration on these two topics: humans and how we treat nature. We cannot do without nature and claim to love nature. We have plants in our rooms: from tropical plants in the living room to the basil in the kitchen that we use in our food. At the same time, rainforests, among other things, are being destroyed for the products we consume, which is also accelerating climate change. With all the work Gigi makes, she wants to make tough topics more accessible. To make subjects discussable.

Dewy Elsinga

Dewy was born and raised in Amsterdam and studied Illustration at the Willem de Kooning in Rotterdam. She is currently working more as an autonomous artist/image maker and has her studio in Amsterdam-Noord. Like most creatives, Dewy has always had a love for drawing. It wasn't until academy that she developed a keen interest in painting, mainly in technique and color theory.

The inspiration for the roof decal design came from a memory she had earlier this year. "I was vacationing in the mountains with friends and we were driving through a gorge. Through the skylight you could see the peaks, super beautiful, and I tried to recreate these in an abstract way," Dewy said. With both BIG LOVE for the Planet and for the People, she has a great deal of both because she always gets her inspiration from the environment. "People and life stories are always interesting and I believe we should be there for each other, just like I believe we should take good care of our planet."
