THE NEW BMW 2 SERIES COUPE

Exterior

The exterior of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé is characterised by triangular shapes, diagonal lines and three-dimensional surfaces. The dynamic character is emphasised by the wheel arches and powerdome in the bonnet. The 2 Series Coupé is fitted as standard with full-LED headlamps, which have a single circular unit and are positioned at the extreme edges of the front. The horizontal kidney grille, in contrast to the traditional bars, features vertically positioned air vents that open automatically when the engine needs extra cooling. The sporty character is also evident in the side view, thanks to the long bonnet and a dynamically sloping roofline that continues into the short luggage compartment. The horizontal lines and the compact, three-dimensional rear light units, which are dark in colour, are striking at the rear. The BMW 2 Series Coupé is fitted as standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, and with the M Sport package these come in 18-inch format. There is also a choice of wheels up to 20 inches.

Interior

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé has a very sporty interior. The combination of the high quality interior trim in the new Dark Graphite matt finish and the detailed workmanship of the sports seats and the leather-trimmed sports steering wheel, among others, reinforce the premium feel. The cockpit design is clearly centred on the driver and creates a pleasant, enclosed and uncluttered feeling. The control cluster on the centre console also accentuates the sporty atmosphere in this new model. Both driver and passengers benefit from all the possibilities the Operating System 7 offers in the new BMW 2 Series Coupé. The convenience of the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel and voice control contribute to advanced connectivity. The 8.8-inch Touch Control Display and a 5.1-inch colour display make up the operating system, with an optional all-digital display combination. As standard, the upholstery of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé is fabric/Sensatec combination, for the M version and the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé it is Alcantara/Sensatec combination. Optional extras include electrically adjustable sports seats, seat and steering wheel heating and a Harman Kardon Surround Sound System.

Equipment and specifications

The focus of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé is on sporting performance. This is achieved through compact dimensions, optimum weight distribution between the front and rear axles, a lightweight body and chassis and up to 12 per cent greater rigidity compared with the previous model. Compared to its predecessor, this BMW is 105 mm longer, 64 mm wider and 28 mm lower, resulting in a length of 4,537 mm, width of 1,838 mm and height of 1,390 mm.
All engines are mated to an 8-speed Steptronic transmission, with the 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission optional. The chassis consists of modified components originally designed for the BMW 4 Series. Shock-dependent damper control, which consists of hydraulic damping on the front axle and a compression-limiting device on the rear axle, prevents body movements when driving over short bumps and thus promotes quiet handling. The BMW 2 Series Coupé is equipped with full-LED headlights as standard, and optionally adaptive LED headlights with a high-beam assist can be chosen, which are also available in a dark version thanks to the M Shadow Line specification. The boot holds 390 litres and the lifting threshold has been lowered by 35 mm. A tow bar with a removable ball can be chosen, which has a permissible trailer weight of 1600 kg.
Approach Control Warning, Speed Limit Info, Lane Departure Warning, Park Distance Control and Cruise Control with brake function are all standard equipment. This can be supplemented by Driving Assistant, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, a rear-view camera and Surround View, for example. Also new to the BMW 2 Series Coupé is the optional Head-Up Display.
