The new BMW i5

More dynamic than ever, a multitude of digital innovations and for the first time with all-electric drive - that is the new BMW 5 Series Sedan. As BMW i5, the latest generation of the world's most successful business sedan takes the lead on the road to sustainable premium mobility in the upper mid-range segment. The all-electric BMW i5 will have a consumer recommended retail price starting at €77,572 in the form of the BMW i5 eDrive40. The all-electric M Performance variant BMW i5 M60 xDrive will be available for a consumer suggested retail price starting at € 108,427.

Sporty elegance and striking appearance with new design language
A clear and minimalist design language emphasizes the sporty elegance and appearance of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan. Compared to the previous model, the new generation lengthened by 97 mm, reaching a total length of 5,060 mm. Width increased by 32 mm to 1,900 mm and height by 36 mm to 1,515 mm. The wheelbase increased by 20 mm and now measures 2,995 mm.

The front of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan stands out with a modern interpretation of the distinctive twin headlights and BMW kidney grille. Almost vertically positioned LED elements serve as turn signals and daytime running lights. The BMW kidney grille provides a wide view and is also optionally available with BMW 'Iconic Glow' kidney grille lighting.

The athletic side view is defined by a high shoulder line, powerful surfaces and two precisely placed character lines. The black sill extensions, recessed door handles and the number 5 embossed at the bottom of the C-pillar are real eye-catchers. A chrome strip separates the horizontal taillights, which stand out with a new, expressive interpretation of the distinctive L-shape.

To further enhance the dynamic character of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, there are the optional M Sport Package and the M Sport Package Pro. The color palette at launch is already available with three BMW Individual body colors.

Driving pleasure and travel comfort combined with innovative flair
The new BMW 5 Series Sedan offers an ideal combination of BMW typical driving pleasure and a high degree of comfort on long journeys. Generous space, modern functionalities and excellent sound insulation for acoustic comfort come together with high-quality and carefully crafted materials, refined craftsmanship and advanced digital services.

The number of buttons in the cockpit of the new BMW 5 Series has been significantly reduced compared to the outgoing model. This is due to the further digitization of functions. The BMW Curved Display is a new interpretation of the focus typical of BMW to focus the cockpit on the driver. The all-digital display consists of a 12.3-inch Information Display and a 14.9-inch Touch Control Display.

The newly designed steering wheel has a flattened underside and provides haptic feedback for the controls. In addition, the transmission lever has also been completely redesigned. The BMW Interaction Bar - standard on the electric variants of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan - is another highlight. It is illuminated from the inside and has a crystal-like surface texture. The BMW Interaction Bar extends across the entire dashboard into the doors and features touch-sensitive control panels.

A first at BMW: completely vegan interior
Newly designed sport seats are part of the standard equipment. The optional comfort seats offer a wide selection of electrically adjustable settings. In addition, the new
BMW 5 Series Sedan is the first model from BMW to feature a fully vegan interior as standard. In addition to covering the seats, dashboard and door panels with the sustainable 'Veganza' material, the steering wheel is also equipped with it for the first time. The 'Veganza' upholstery with leather-like properties is optionally available in multiple colors and with decorative stitching. Also optionally available is BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery in several bicolor variants.

All-electric BMW i5 M60 xDrive as top model
The all-electric BMW i5 features the significantly improved, fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology and is available in two variants. The BMW i5 M60 xDrive combines a 442 kW (601 hp) powerful drivetrain with typical M performance and specific design features. Two integrated drive units on the front and rear axles provide all-electric all-wheel drive. System torque is up to 820 Nm with M Sport Boost or M Launch Control function engaged. With this, the BMW i5 M60 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 230 km/h.

In the other variant, the BMW i5 eDrive40, an electric motor drives the rear wheels and delivers a maximum output of 250 kW (340 hp) and maximum torque of 430 Nm with Sport Boost or Launch Control function. The BMW i5 eDrive40 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds and the top speed is 193 km/h.

The high-voltage battery is located in the bottom plate of the BMW i5 and has a usable net capacity of 81.2 kWh. Together with the efficient electric motors, the latest version of adaptive regeneration and a clever use of heat pump technology for heating and cooling the interior, this ensures a long range. The BMW i5 M60 xDrive has a WLTP range of 455-516 km and the BMW i5 eDrive40 a WLTP range of 477-582 km. With the new MAX RANGE feature, the range can be increased by up to 25 percent by limiting power and top speed and disabling comfort features.

Innovative charging solutions from BMW Charging
The Combined Charging Unit (CCU) of the BMW i5 eDrive40 enables AC charging with up to 11 kW, with 22 kW as an option (standard on BMW i5 M60 xDrive). The high-voltage battery can be charged with up to 205 kW using a DC charger. With this, the battery of the BMW i5, for example, can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.

The BMW i5 models are also the brand's first models to be compatible with the Plug & Charge feature. This allows the BMW to independently sign up at suitable public charging stations without the use of an app or charging card. Unique is the Multi Contract Option, which allows up to five different individual Plug & Charge contracts from different providers to be stored digitally in the BMW.

Intuitive operation and new digital experiences: BMW iDrive with 'QuickSelect' and BMW Operating System 8.5
The further developed BMW iDrive system with 'QuickSelect' contributes to the distinctive driving and travel experience in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan. The system is based on the BMW Operating System 8.5 and features a newly designed 'home' screen with vertically positioned function keys on the driver's side. 'QuickSelect' allows quick operation of functions without having to switch to a submenu. This gives the system an improved menu structure, very similar to that of smartphones and tablets.

The new BMW iDrive functions in conjunction with the BMW Curved Display and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. The system is designed to optimize control via touch and natural speech. In addition, the new BMW 5 Series Sedan features the distinctive iDrive controller on the center console. The optional BMW Live Cockpit Professional includes the BMW Head-Up Display and Augmented View with display on the Control Display or instrument panel. Optional is BMW Natural Interaction for controlling functions by gestures.

In-car gaming debuts in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan
BMW Operation System 8.5 also offers even more digital content for information or entertainment, faster updates to features, improved information about charging stations for electrified models and optimized access to many online services. Video streaming is possible via the Control Display, as well as an innovative form of in-car gaming. This is possible in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan for the first time via the AirConsole platform. Driver and passengers can therefore play games or stream videos while the BMW is stationary, for example during the waiting time of a charging session.

Optimized network with integrated 5G antennas
Another innovation is the Welcome Scenario, with light show and personalized welcome. Optionally, this also includes the dynamic Light Carpet. The BMW Digital Key Plus is now available for smartphones with iOS or Android operating systems and for the Apple Watch. With the standard 5G antennas, the new business sedan offers optimal connectivity and phone connection. The Personal eSIM ensures that the BMW is fully integrated into the driver's digital world. In selected markets including the Netherlands, it is also possible to pay for parking automatically from the BMW.

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan offers a choice of up to six 'My Modes' to enhance the driving experience and make it even more immersive. Standard equipment also includes optimized smartphone integration via Apple ^CarPay® and Android ^Auto™. With the Remote Software Upgrades feature, the BMW is always up-to-date with the latest software.

The market launch of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan also marks the beginning of a new chapter in customer service. With Proactive Car, BMW is creating a new platform for servicing the BMW. The focus here is on recognizing the need for maintenance, including with the help of artificial intelligent and proactively offering solutions to the customer.
