Optional are 20-inch light-alloy M wheels in an exclusive double-spoke design and with sport tires.

Design and equipment: with the signature of M
The new BMW X1 M35i stands out not only with its performance from the other BMW X1 models, but also with its M-specific design. The interior of the BMW X1 M35i already has a particularly sporty look as standard. This can be further enhanced with exclusive options such as the M Sport seats. M-specific displays on the BMW Curved Display - a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.7-inch information display, which together form a whole - alert the driver to the sporty performance.

M specific interior, optional with M Sport seats
The also M specific cockpit design contributes to the intense, performance-oriented interior experience. Highlights include the Alcantara-clad dashboard, Aluminum Hexacube Dark interior accents, anthracite-colored headliner, M door sill panels, M pedals, the M-specific displays on the BMW Curved Display - and optionally also the BMW Head-Up Display - and the leather-clad M Sport steering wheel with shift paddles.

The standard equipment of the new BMW X1 M35i also includes sport seats upholstered in black Veganza/Alcantara with blue contrasting stitching. These seats are optionally available with Vernasca leather with special diamond pattern. M Sport seats are optionally available.

The sporty interior is nevertheless as functional as ever. The backrest of the rear seats folds down in a 40:20:40 ratio and the angle of the backrest is individually adjustable for each seat. Optionally, the rear seats slide forward and backward for even more flexibility. The luggage compartment has a capacity of 540 liters and can be increased to 1,600 liters.

Display, control and connectivity: BMW iDrive with QuickSelect and BMW Operating System 9
The new BMW X1 M35i is one of the first models to feature the updated version of the BMW iDrive control system, with QuickSelect and BMW Operating System 9. To make selecting and operating various functions and digital services even more intuitive and convenient, the latest generation of BMW iDrive offers a redesigned "home" screen and the QuickSelect function. This is an improved menu structure similar to that of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. By showing the right information in the right place, the new BMW iDrive provides a more focused and safer driving experience.

The BMW iDrive system with QuickSelect is supported by BMW Operating System 9, which offers an even wider range of digital content for information and entertainment. There are more frequent updates and improved access to various specific online services. BMW iDrive with QuickSelect works together with the BMW Curved Display and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, making it fully focused on touchscreen operation and natural voice commands.

Familiar M details: M kidney grille with horizontal double bars, M exterior mirror caps and four exhaust tailpipes
The M-specific design features of the new BMW X1 M35i are a visual confirmation of the technology concealed in the exceptionally sporty car and also contribute to optimal aerodynamics and supply of cooling air. For example, the front bumper with particularly large air intakes ensures that the engine, transmission and brakes are always at optimum temperature, even during hard braking. Prominent sill extensions, a model-specific roof spoiler and a rear bumper with diffuser insert make the performance-oriented character of the new top model immediately apparent.

The BMW M kidney grille of the new BMW X1 M35i features the M logo and horizontal double bars - a detail that characterizes high-performance models from BMW M GmbH. In the side view, the black M exterior mirror caps and double mirror base are a highlight. Also very recognizable are the four exhaust tailpipes - each 80 mm in diameter - integrated on the far left and right into the model-specific rear bumper, as a visual reference to the most refined engine in the model range.

Standard adaptive M suspension and Sport Steering
The new BMW X1 M35i comes standard with the adaptive M suspension with mechanically controlled, adjustable and frequency-selective dampers. These provide both extra dynamics and comfort on long distances. The sporty top model also stands 15 millimeters lower above the road surface than other BMW X1 models. The Sport Steering, also standard, offers speed-dependent Servotronic power steering with very direct transmission.

Braking system with optional M Compound disc brakes
The braking system of the new BMW X1 M35i responds remarkably directly and precisely to driver input, while the brake pedal provides excellent feedback. Activation of the brakes, the brake booster and control of the brakes have been brought together in one compact module, with an electric control system ensuring the correct brake pressure.

The BMW X1 M35i is the first performance model from BMW M GmbH to be optionally available with M Compound disc brakes, featuring four-piston fixed calipers and perforated front brake discs with a diameter of 385 mm and floating rear calipers with integrated handbrake and 330 mm diameter brake discs. The calipers are finished in gray and feature the M logo.

7-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission with M Sport Boost
The 7-speed Steptronic transmission of the new BMW X1 M35i distinguishes itself with very fast gearshifts. Shift paddles on the steering wheel additionally allow manual shifting. The M Sport Boost function ensures exceptionally strong acceleration. Switching on this most sporty mode for driveline and chassis is done by holding the left shift paddle retracted for at least 1 second.

Optimum grip and dynamics: BMW xDrive all-wheel drive and mechanical limited-slip differential on the front axle
The BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system ensures that the drive power is optimally distributed between the front and rear wheels based on conditions. To this end, the system works continuously with the other suspension systems. A clutch with electro-hydraulic control can send drive power to the rear wheels within milliseconds, providing significantly more traction, grip, stability and sporting performance.

All-wheel drive is assisted by a mechanical limited-slip differential integrated into the 7-speed Steptronic transmission. The differential limits the difference in speed between the two front wheels. Locking up to 26 percent, the differential provides additional grip on loose surfaces or on slippery road surfaces in bad weather, while also improving agility and dynamics when cornering.

Most powerful BMW four-cylinder engine of new generation
The most powerful version of the four-cylinder gasoline engine of the new modular generation provides an impressive driving experience. Several innovations distinguish these new engines from the previous generation. For example, the powerplant runs according to the Miller cycle, the intake ducts and combustion chambers have been redesigned, and the timing of the camshaft, the injection system and the exhaust gas outlet have been modified.

M-specific highlights of the 2.0-liter engine include a new and extremely robust crankshaft guide, an optimized oil supply system with cooling channels to the pistons and use of main bearing shells and caps similar to those found in the latest generation of six-cylinder in-line gasoline engines. M TwinPower Turbo technology has been upgraded for improved turbocharger performance and indirect air cooling. At the same time, dual fuel injection per cylinder ensures optimal fuel mixture. The engine also features VANOS variable camshaft timing with optimized oil supply and VALVETRONIC fully variable valve timing. The engine delivers its maximum power of 221 kW (300 hp) between 5,750 and 6,500 rpm, while maximum torque of 400 Nm is available between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm.

The performance of the new four-cylinder is enhanced by an ear-pleasing and full sound from the M-specific exhaust system. In the BMW X1 M35i, the exhaust gases are guided by a characteristic exhaust system from BMW M GmbH with dual exhaust end pipes. The exhaust end pipes are formed on the left and right in the rear bumper and are characteristic of BMW M's high-performance models.
