First high-performance models with 48V Mild Hybrid technology
The new powertrain of the new BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition introduces 48V technology for the first time in high-performance models from BMW M GmbH. Integrated into the compact housing of the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission is an electric motor, which delivers up to 9 kW (12 hp) of additional power and 200 Nm of additional torque while acting as a starter motor on the crankshaft. The energy for this comes from a 48V battery in the engine compartment, which is charged with efficiently recovered energy released during braking.

Mild Hybrid technology is combined with a new M TwinPower Turbo V8 gasoline engine. The 4.4-liter engine now features a cross-bank exhaust manifold, a strengthened crank drive, more advanced turbochargers, a new air intake and optimized oil supply and separation. Maximum torque is 750 Nm between 1,800 and 5,800 rpm and maximum power 460 kW (625 hp) at 6,000 rpm.

The quick response, high-revving nature of the V8 engine and boost from the electric motor take performance to the next level that M models are known for. Both the new BMW X5 M Competition and the new BMW X6 M Competition accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. The standard M Sport exhaust system with electric valve control makes the experience even more dynamic. New catalytic converters additionally optimize the gasoline engine's emissions.

Even sportier driving experience
The distinctive performance of the new BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition provides even more experience thanks to a modified version of the M xDrive all-wheel drive system, combined with the active M Sport differential on the rear axle. Through the M Setup menu, the driver can switch between standard all-wheel drive and Sport mode, which sends more power to the rear wheels for controlled drifts.

Whereas previously the M xDrive all-wheel drive and the active M Sport differential were only connected to the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), in the BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition they now also work together with the traction control integrated into the engine management for the first time. This ensures even faster and more precise reactions to changes in the driving situation and improved traction.

Breathes exclusivity with an even more expressive character
Sporty dominance and an extrovert character mark the exterior design of the new BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition. This new look is largely due to the design of the front end. Both models now feature new adaptive LED headlights with Matrix technology and the BMW Selective Beam high beam assistant. The headlights have become 35 millimeters narrower than in previous models. Optionally, the headlights can be fitted with Shadow Line details.

The BMW kidney grille is now completely black in color. The horizontal bars and an extra-large model designation stand out. In addition, the BMW kidney grille and the central air intake now form a whole, like a black X-shape. The taillights of the BMW X5 M Competition now feature X-shaped light elements made of fiberglass - a spectacular rear design feature. Both models have standard 21-inch alloy M wheels at the front and 22-inch alloy M wheels at the rear.

Modern, digital, exclusive: M cockpit with BMW Curved Display
The heart of the design updates in the interior of the new BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition is the BMW Curved Display, which gives the M cockpit a modern and exclusive look. The curved glass screen consists of a 12.3-inch Info Display behind the steering wheel and a 14.9-inch large Control Display. Via the Control Display's touch functionality, various functions can be controlled digitally, significantly reducing the need for physical buttons.

Other new touches include interior moldings in precious wood finish 'Fineline' schwarz high gloss, the Ambient Light Bar with M logo and the leather-clad M Sport steering wheel with new carbon shift paddles. Also standard are the M multifunction seats, knee pads, full leather upholstery Merino and the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System. The Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof, the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System and the new Travel & Comfort System are just a few examples of the available options.

Wider selection of driver assistance systems
Comfort and safety have been further enhanced in the new BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition with a wider range of systems for automated driving and parking.

The functions of the standard Approach Control Warning have been expanded, so it now also reduces the risk of collisions with cyclists, pedestrians and oncoming traffic when turning. Lane Return with steering assistance has been added to the Lane Departure Warning function. The option list now also includes features such as automatic Speed Limit Assist, Safe Exit warning function, active navigation, traffic light recognition (not available in all countries) and Lane Change Assistant.

With the new optional package Parking Assistant Professional, it is possible to have parking and coasting maneuvers automated via the My BMW App on an Apple iPhone. Other driven maneuvers over a distance of up to 200 meters are also feasible. Drivers can activate each maneuver from inside the BMW, or from outside while watching the surroundings.
