THE NEW BMW i7 M70 xDRIVE

BMW M GmbH introduces an all-electric performance model as the new top-of-the-line version of the BMW 7 Series. The BMW i7 M70 xDrive is the most powerful all-electric model in the entire BMW Group. Electric motors on the front and rear axles, together accounting for a system output of 485 kW (660 hp)*, and an M-specific chassis ensure that the new BMW i7 M70 xDrive offers a perfect combination of electric driving and impressive performance. The driving experience is unmatched for the luxury segment. The new flagship model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, making it the fastest all-electric BMW model. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. The BMW i7 M70 xDrive will make its debut at the Auto Shanghai International Motor Show (April 18 to 27, 2023) in China. Global market launch will take place in the second half of 2023.

The most powerful BMW electric motor
The fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology of the BMW i7 is constantly being further improved for better performance and greater efficiency. The new BMW i7 M70 xDrive features integrated drive units on the front and rear axles. Thereby, the electric motor, control electronics and transmission are combined very compactly in a single housing. The M-specific design of the synchronous motors of the BMW i7 M70 xDrive ensures unparalleled power density - especially with the motor on the rear axle. At 2.41 kWh per kilogram, it is currently the most powerful BMW electric motor.

This new record performance is due to a BMW Group patented innovation. In the electric motor, six excitation coils are used in the stator, instead of three as usual. This allows the electric motor to still achieve extremely high power with a compact design and deliver it continuously at high speeds. This is a significantly better solution than a rear axle with two conventional electric motors. This applies to both power density and efficiency.

Maximum power with M Sport Boost and M Launch Control
The electric motor on the rear axle delivers a maximum output of 360 kW (489 hp). In precise cooperation with the 190 kW (258 hp) strong electric motor on the front axle, fully electric all-wheel drive is created. In Sport Mode, the system torque is 1,015 Nm and even 1,100 Nm with M Launch Control and the M Sport Boost function engaged. In this way, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive boasts unprecedented pulling power.

With M Launch Control, torque and traction control is controlled by the control unit of the electric motor. This controls the power of the electric motors very precisely to deliver fascinating performance without loss of grip.

The left paddle on the steering wheel is used to activate the M Sport Boost function. An M Performance display on the instrument panel confirms the activation. Acceleration is then accompanied by an authentic and emotionally powerful M Performance sound, as part of the BMW IconicSounds Electric developed together with composer Hans Zimmer.

For long trips: the new MAX RANGE feature
The new BMW i7 M70 xDrive is also well suited for long distances. With a usable capacity of 101.7 kWh, the high-voltage battery is good for a range of 588 to 560 km (WLTP). In MAX RANGE mode, the range increases by about 15 to 25 percent by limiting power and top speed and reducing the operation of some comfort functions.

The Combined Charging Unit's advanced charging software ensures fast and efficient charging of the high-voltage battery as standard. It does so with up to 22 kW for alternating current and up to 195 kW for direct current (fast charging). This makes it possible to top up to 170 km range (WLTP) in 10 minutes at a fast charging station.

New two-tone body color, Frozen body colors based on biomass
The new BMW i7 M70 xDrive is available with a wide range of body colors. More than 100 BMW Individual body colors are available to choose from. BMW Individual Two-Tone body colors can now also be combined with BMW Individual body colors for a particularly extravagant look. For example, with BMW Individual Liquid Copper metallic for the lower half of the body and Sapphirschwarz metallic for the upper part.

The Frozen body colors for the new BMW i7 M70 xDrive are produced using an innovative process based on biomass instead of petroleum. In this process, the composition of the product remains the same, but the raw materials are obtained from sustainable sources.

Advanced BMW iDrive with 'QuickSelect'
The new BMW i7 M70 xDrive is one of the brand's first models to feature the latest generation BMW iDrive with 'QuickSelect' and BMW Operation System 8.5. This advanced display and control system features a redesigned home screen and 'QuickSelect' access with an improved menu structure similar to regular electronic devices. BMW iDrive with 'QuickSelect' is combined with the BMW Curved Display and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

The new home screen always shows the navigation system's map, or other views if individually set. On the driver's side of the display, function icons are placed vertically at the same height, which the driver can select with a swipe. Associated functions can be called up directly with "QuickSelect," without having to switch to a submenu.

The cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps not only offers an Augmented View view on the information display behind the steering wheel, but also enhanced functions for even more precise navigation. The navigation also takes charging stations into account even better. In addition, the services and apps already known from the new BMW 7 Series work on the BMW Operating System 8.5.
